New Construction Septic Systems in Northwest Missouri
Building a new home on acreage or rural property? Get the septic system figured out early. Digger Dave can help take your project from the first property questions through soil evaluation, design, permitting and installation.
You don’t need to know what type of septic system you need before you call. Start with the property and your building plans, and we’ll help determine what needs to happen next.
Building a House? Don’t Leave the Septic System Until the End
On rural property, the septic system can influence where the house, driveway, well and other improvements should go. Waiting until the rest of the site is already laid out can create unnecessary problems.
The better approach is to understand the property’s septic options early enough to incorporate them into the overall building plan.
If you’re planning a new home, you can contact Digger Dave before you’ve broken ground. In many cases, earlier is better.
Buying Land to Build a Home?
If you’re still shopping for land, septic feasibility is worth investigating before you get too far into the purchase.
Two properties that look nearly identical above ground can have very different soil and site conditions below the surface. Those differences can affect what type of septic system is possible and what the wastewater portion of the project may cost.
Getting appropriate soil and site information early can help you make a more informed decision about a building lot.
If you’re asking, “Can I build a house with septic on this property?” that’s a good time to call us.
The New Construction Septic Process
1. Start With the Property
Send us the property address and tell us what you’re planning to build. A site plan, survey or house layout can also be useful if you already have one.
2. Soil & Site Evaluation
The appropriate soil and site information helps determine what type of onsite wastewater system may work and where it can reasonably be located.
3. Septic System Design
Once the necessary site information is available, the septic system can be planned around the property, proposed home and wastewater needs.
4. Engineering When Required
If the property requires an advanced or engineered wastewater system, the appropriate professional design can be coordinated as part of the project.
5. Permitting
The required plans and information are submitted through the applicable permitting process for the property.
6. Septic Installation
Once the project is ready for construction, Digger Dave installs the septic system according to the approved plan and site requirements.
What Type of Septic System Will My New House Need?
You don’t choose a septic system from a catalog. The appropriate system depends on the property.
Soil conditions, usable area, slope, setbacks, home size, wastewater flow and local requirements can all influence the final system.
- Conventional gravity systems
- Lagoon systems
- Pressure distribution systems
- Low-pressure pipe (LPP)
- Pump systems
- Drip irrigation systems
- Mound systems
- Presby systems
- Aerobic treatment units
- Other advanced systems
Good soil and a suitable site may allow a relatively simple system. More challenging properties may require an advanced approach. Digger Dave installs both.
House Placement Matters
The septic system needs usable space too. House placement can affect the available area for the septic tank, treatment components, disposal field and required setbacks.
The same is true for wells, driveways, shops, barns, pools and other planned improvements.
Before permanently locating everything else on the property, make sure you’re leaving a workable plan for wastewater.
Already Have Your Soil Report?
Great. Send it over.
If you’ve already completed the soil and site evaluation, send Digger Dave the report along with the property address and information about the home you’re planning.
We’ll review what you have and help determine the next step toward design, permitting and installation.
Already Have a Septic Design?
That’s fine too. If your soil evaluation, septic design or engineered plans are already complete, we can pick up the project from there.
Send us the documents and property information and we’ll review them for the installation side of the project.
Building Your Own Home?
Owner-builders often end up coordinating a lot of moving pieces themselves. The septic system doesn’t have to become another mystery to solve.
Contact Digger Dave with the property and project information. We’ll help you understand where the septic portion needs to start and what needs to happen before installation.
Builders & Contractors
Digger Dave also works with builders and contractors who need the septic side of a new construction project handled without becoming another job they have to manage themselves.
Whether the property needs a straightforward conventional system or a more involved advanced installation, get us the site information early so we can help keep the project moving.

New Construction Septic FAQs
When should I start planning the septic system for a new house?
Ideally, early in the site-planning process. Understanding the septic requirements before finalizing house placement, the well, driveway and other improvements can prevent conflicts later.
Do I need a soil test before getting a septic quote?
Soil and site information is often necessary before the final system type and installation scope can be determined. If you don’t have that information yet, contact us anyway. We’ll help get the process started.
Can I buy land before having the soil evaluated?
You can, but understanding septic feasibility before committing to a building property can provide valuable information about possible system requirements and development costs.
What if the property won’t support a conventional septic system?
A conventional system isn’t the only onsite wastewater option. Depending on the site and applicable requirements, an advanced system such as drip, LPP, mound, Presby or another approved approach may be possible.
Can Digger Dave handle the entire septic project?
Digger Dave can be your starting point for the septic side of the project. We can help coordinate the appropriate soil/site, design and engineering steps when required and then take the project through installation.
How much does a new septic system cost?
Cost depends heavily on the system type, property conditions, design requirements and installation scope. A conventional system on a favorable site can be very different from an advanced system on a difficult property. Once we know what the property requires, we can provide much more useful pricing.
